The athletic teams from The University of Mississippi are known as the Ole Miss Rebels, since 1936, being originally known as the Mississippi Flood, who compete in the Southeastern Conference of the NCAA’s Division I, in various sports, including football, baseball, basketball, tennis and volleyball. The women’s basketball team, one of the sports in which the Rebels are best known, has been created in 1974, and since then, has had 17 appearances in the NCAA Women’s Division I Basketball Championship tournament, also reaching the Sweet Sixteen eight times and the Elite Eight 5 times, appearing in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament in 1999, 2001, and 2006, as well.
